NOTES ON THE WEATHER
Issued at 11:45 am on Wednesday, 7 October 2009
RECENT EVENTS:
Fine and mostly sunny conditions were experienced across the State yesterday
apart from over the southeast corner where cooler southeasterly winds brought
isolated light showers. Rainfall gaugings in the 24 hours to 9 am were mostly
below 1 mm. Mount Gambier reported the highest gauging of 2 mm. Clear skies
overnight resulted in very cold temperatures and frost over the southeast corner
of the State. Overnight minimum temperatures ranged from -2 degrees at Keith up
to 13 degrees in the far north at Oodnadatta, Ernabella and Moomba.
FORECAST EXPLANATION:
A high 1031 hPa well south of Port Lincoln will dominate the weather over South
Australia for the rest of the week as it moves slowly east, to be over the
Tasman Sea by Saturday night.
The persistent, cool southerly winds on the eastern flank of this high will
maintain periods of isolated light shower activity over southern coastal
districts until Friday morning. Elsewhere, conditions are forecast to be fine
with mostly clear skies, resulting in cold and frosty mornings on and east of
the ranges. The days will gradually become warmer as winds tend easterly to
northerly late in the week, grading to hot in the west.
Northerly winds will gradually freshen ahead of a moderate westerly change which
is expected to slowly track across the western parts of the State on Saturday
and Sunday. Areas of middle-level cloud will extend eastwards on Saturday with
isolated thundery showers will follow on Sunday west of about Coober Pedy to
Adelaide. It will be cold at first in the southeast on Saturday morning with
early frost. The days will be warmer grading to hot in the north and west.
Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Saturday will be negligible. Rainfall
totals on Sunday are forecast to be less than 2 mm.
The outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday is for the trough to extend
thundery showers across South Australia early in the period. A developing low is
expected to bring further showers and cooler, fresh southwesterly winds later in
the period.

Important note on this information This weather station is a privately owned weather station for observing and collecting weather information for a specific location. It does not meet the standards of weather collection as set by organisations such as the Bureau of Meteorology. As an example, wind speed should be measured in an open area where there are no restrictions, this is not possible as our block is in a valley with considerable trees and houses. For this reason, you should not rely on the data found here. It needs to be interpreted correctly. Powered by WebRing®. Information and Data on this site are copyright and all rights are reserved.
